What are the aims ?
The objective of the practically oriented course is to prepare geoscientists for careers in the fields of hydrogeology and engineering geology, especially in tropical and subtropical regions, with special relevance to environmental problems.
Hydrogeology deals with the presence, movement patterns, and chemical properties of groundwater, including interactions with surface water, soil and rocks; another field of interest of particular practical relevance is the exploration, exploitation and protection of groundwater resources. Engineering geology deals with rocks and rock masses with regard to their properties and behaviour as building substrate and building material. Besides these main topics, some other fields of interest are included which are necessary or helpful for work in tropical and subtropical regions such as remote sensing techniques, surveying methods and geophysical applications. In line with the practical orientation, special emphasis is attached to fieldwork and excursions.
English has been chosen as the course language to enable participants from all parts of the world to take part in the course without a long period of language learning.
